At JUN today! Very excited about this particular visit, because I will be upgrading the Skyline GTR to a Stage 1+ (I’ll explain the + later down below) tuned by one of the most reputable RB26 tuners in Japan.
Here is the kit I decided to go with. The Apexi ECU over a flash ECU was a good choice for when I inevitably upgrade the motor, turbos and fuel system. JUN prefers the GReddy Profec boost controller and colder Greddy spark plugs.
Here is where the Stage 1“+” comes in. JUN offers Adjustable Cam Sprockets and they can rework the timing of the engine. It was an extra 550 bucks, but I’m glad I went with this additional upgrade in the end. The power band is so smooth across the entire RPM range. Before, you could feel a burst of power around 2.5K to 3K with the stock tune. Now its’ just a consistent acceleration from the very begging of the RPM climb.
Alright, lets take a look at what we can find outside of JUN auto before heading inside to drool over what is locked up.
Parked right next to my car is the JUN Akira GT-R coming in at 858 horse power! That’s just their street car!
Across the way, looking like he is in time out for too many speeding tickets is the JUN 420GTR! This is their competition version of the GTR R35 and has a ridiculous 1,511 horse power!
Parked at the front of the shop was JUN’s Subaru BRZ with a custom built Synergy 2.4L V8! This tiny car packs 362 horse power and doesn’t redline until well over 10,000 RPMS. I would love to drift around an empty parking lot in this thing.
Alright, lets head inside. I think it was about to rain so they put their two R35 GTRs in the warehouse.
Last shot of the 420GTR before moving on.
I spotted an old Datsun 300z hanging out to a Toyota Supra, no doubt dropped off for some tasty modifications.
Alright enough drooling over the other cars there. I went back to check on my own and saw that it was raised up in the air on some super piston jacks. I need a pair of these in my drive way for sure.
Needless to say, my car passed the test!
They moved it inside to install the boost controller and the adjustable camshaft sprockets. I had them replace the timing belt with a NISMO one while they were in there. Highly suggest you take care of this when you buy your new car. They inspected my water pump, radiator, and other cooling components. All of them passed, luckily.
Okay, everything is installed and it’s time for the dyno machine!
They anchored here down nice and tight before letting her loose.
Here is a picture of the f*ing legend himself, probably very disappointed I’m not going for a full engine build, upgraded turbos, and a monster tune. I wish I had the kind of cash!
Mechanic: "Don't touch it, it's makin over 9,000!"
The Dyno machine registered it 450 horse power at the fly, I'm not sure how much horse power the AWD transmisison sucks up, but I'm guess I've got about 390-400 HP at the wheels. The car was great to drive before, but now it an absolute blast to take thorugh the mountains. I only installed a few simple mods before showing up: Apexi Intake, Fujistubo Equal Front Pipe, HKS High Flow Cat, and a Tnabe Power G Medallion Cat Back Exhuast.
Here is a video of the dyno pulls to close out this amazing experience.
