When I flew out to Cyprus, the Germans were on Strike at Frankfurt Mainz. I had never seen it so empty. All the stores were closed and the only flights departing were on foreign carriers. Lucky for me, I happened to be book on Greece Airlines.
I stayed at an awesome hotel right on the beach, here is a picture of the sunset after I checked in.
Directly across from the hotel was a large pier where the locals kept their sail boats docked at.
I came here for a business trip, but I ended up having Friday night and most the day Saturday to go exploring.
The first stop was a local monastery (name). Like most monasteries in Europe, you can only go inside if you are Male. If you are traveling with a Female companion please keep this in mind. They asked us to please not take in pictures inside and normally I would sneak one or two, but decided to be respectful since it was a place of worship. Here is the view of Cyprus from the top of the Monastery.
Outside the main Monastery, was a small church that anyone was allowed to go in and I was able to take pictures as well.
The inside of the church reflected much of the same decorations as the inside of the main Monastery.
The top let in plenty of light, as there was no electricity. Living on a tropical Mediterranean island, they don’t have much need for heat or A/C, but made sure to accommodate lighting in the original construction.
Here is the back side of the small church on the edge of the Cliff with the main monastery in the background to the left.
I was suggested this place for dinner, “1900”. It did not disappoint, please check it out if you ever visit Larnaca (right side of Cyprus).
This place was built inside of the original Italian Embassy. There is a full restaurant upstairs, but the bottom floor is where all the fun is.
It’s a whisky bar/pub. Lots of good food and an amazing selection of bourbons and scotch.
Woke up Saturday morning and spent the rest of the day on the beach. It was freezing in Germany, so I wanted to soak up as much warm sun as possible.
I went in February and the water was too cold to enjoy, but the beach was perfect for lounging in the sun.
There are a lot of restaurants and bars along the way, finding food/drinks isn’t a problem. There are also these random chairs you can use all up and down the beach. Its first come first serve so if you see one grab it!
The public beach on this side is a good two mile walk and is very beautiful.
Also, it just so happens to end at the Airport! So you can walk back to the terminal if you want, very convenient.
